During it‘s summer-break, the Salzburg State Theatre is a marvelous venue for various plays of Salzburg Festival. From the „Court Theatre“ and the „Imperial and Royal National Theatre“ to the „City Theatre“, the theatre looks back on an eventful history. In 1775 Prince-Archbishop Hieronymus Franz Josef von Colloredo-Mannsfeld replaced the former dance hall, built in 1625, by an „archiepiscopal theater“. The Mozart family was among the early theater visitors. Rebuilt in 1893 the City Theater became the Salzburg State Theatre in 1940.
The theater has approx. 1.000 seats.
