Memorial plaque for Charmian Carr in Hellbrunn
Nicholas Hammond unveiled memorial plaque for "Liesl von Trapp"
On July 18, 2017 the memorial plaque for Charmian Carr next to the Sound of Music-Gazebo in Hellbrunn was unveiled. The charming actress, who sadly passed away in September 2016, played Liesl von Trapp, the oldest daughter of the family, in the world famous movie The Sound of Music.
The unveiling ceremony was held by deputy mayor Harry Preuner and Nicholas Hammond, who played Friedrich von Trapp in „The Sound of Music“. It was Hammond’s initiative to install a commemorative plaque and Mr. Stefan Herzl, owner of Salzburg Panorama Tours, took up this idea and the Hellbrunn Castle administration arranged the implementation.
For Sound of Music fans the Gazebo is inextricably linked with Charmian Carr being the very place where the famous dancing scene was filmed and Liesl sang „Sixteen Going On Seventeen“. After the Sound of Music filming was completed, the Gazebo – originally located in the park of Schloss Leopoldskron – was presented to the City of Salzburg. Restored in 1991 and since then all Sound of Music fans admire the genuine gazebo in Hellbrunn during the Original Sound of Music Tour ®.
